Louise by the sea
En este podcast en inglés, Amanda habla con su vieja amiga Louise, a quien conoció hace mas de diez años en Galicia cuando estaban viviendo juntas en Vigo.
Discuten en primer lugar sobre la motivación de Louise de mudarse de Inglaterra a España, por que dejó Vigo para venir a Barcelona, y por que encontró difícil mudarse a Barcelona al principio.
Ellas comparan la vida en Galicia con la de Barcelona, y terminan discutiendo sobre por que Louise esta contenta de que recientemente tuvo su bebé en España y no en Inglaterra. Este audio termina con la usual pregunta – ¡¿Cuál es mejor, Inglaterra o España?!.
En inglés: In this English podcast Amanda talks to her old friend Louise, whom she met more than 10 years ago in Galicia, when they were living together in Vigo.
They discuss Louise’s motivation for moving from England to Spain in the first place, why she left Vigo to come to Barcelona, and why she found the move to Barcelona difficult at first.
They compare life in Galicia with that in Barcelona and finish by discussing why Louise is glad she has recently had her baby in Spain and not in England. The podcast finishes with the usual question – “Which is better, England or Spain?!”.
Functional Vocabulary
The following words are necessary to understand certain parts of the podcast but may not be essential to learn at this stage.
To lose track of time – to lose one’s sense of time meaning time can move faster or slower without you realizing.
Dog eat dog – an idiom that refers to a brutal environment where people exploit and compete against each other.
Trawling – to go fishing on an industrial scale (at sea) or metaphorically – to look hard for something.
A toss up – a choice. From the action of tossing a coin to decide something.
Fancy – to desire or want something colloquially, however, it means ‘to be attracted to’ in a romantic sense.
