Transcripción del audio
JIMMY JINX: Good afternoon, this is uh…Jimmy Jinx and I’m here in Barranquilla with Gato my Colombian…’tour guide’, and I’ve been introducing her to tea…English tea drinking…in particular English Breakfast Tea which…er…which I’m just about to…to make a brew (infusión) of now. So…um…Gato…ha…er two sugars…
English Breakfast Tea
JIMMY JINX: …for you I believe?
GATO: …you know I love sugar things…sweet things.
JIMMY JINX: I know you like your…I know you like it sweet…sorry, just banged (golpear) the table!
[Sound of pouring tea]
JIMMY JINX: Oh yes! Look at the colour…nice…deep, golden (dorado) brown…um…perfecto! And…er…just a dash (gota) of milk…
GATO: So milk um…I understand…has to be cold?
JIMMY JINX: The milk must be cold, the water must be boiling (hirviendo) hot…
GATO: Why?
JIMMY JINX: Unfortunately they don’t provide us with a jug (jarra) so I have to pour it out of a glass which is quite messy (desordenado) don’t you think? It just takes the edge off the heat (reduce el calor un poco) …of the water…and er…makes it drinkable (potable) straight away. If…for the brave (valiente), my mother likes to drink it basically boiling hot straight from the cup. I like to give it a few minutes to cool down…normally light a cigarette, have a couple of…couple of puffs (inhalaciónes)…and then…er…the tea’s just reached perfect drinking temperature.
Jimmy & Gato enjoying their English Breakfast Tea in Barranquilla, Colombia
GATO: So tell me Jimmy Jinx, why is it that tea is such an important part of English culture? Why do you think…that?
JIMMY JINX: Well everything in England is based (se basa) around tea.You get up, you have tea, someone comes to visit, you have tea, a death in the family, you have tea, a birth in the family you deliver (entregar) the good news over a pot of tea…hot/cold weather…tea…you know…moments yourself at work…quiet five minutes with a cup of tea. We were…you were impressed (impresionado) earlier when you found out that everyone in England would have their own tea cup in their place of work so they can have their own…
GATO: …yes…
JIMMY JINX: It’s just a cosy (acogedor), comfortable moment!
GATO: I have my tea pot (pote) now!
JIMMY JINX: Yes, exactly…all part of my spreading the gospel of tea! I gave Gato for Christmas a tea pot, and er…two mugs…although now we’re drinking from cups and saucers (platillos)…we’re in the…because we’re in the hotel, we can get room service (servicio de habitaciones) to deliver hot water, milk, sugar, cups and saucers…and then I apply my own English Breakfast magic and er…and here we are! How is your tea Gato?
GATO: Sweet!
JIMMY JINX: Sweet enough?
GATO: Sweet and deli…sweet enough! Nice! As I like it!
JIMMY JINX: I like mine with just a dash…just a touch of sugar…just a hint of sweetness…but also…some bitterness (amargura) comes through.
GATO: You were very impressed when you find out that you could find English Breakfast Tea here.
JIMMY JINX: Uh-huh! It took me a while, I had to experiment with a few random (aleatorio) brands but then when I found Twinings of London, that was like a e…jackpot moment, a Eureka moment so I…I stocked up (abastecerse). And I intend to (tener la intención de) drink tea…all the way around South America.
[Later]
JIMMY JINX: Um…Gato, how is your forth cup of tea of the day?
GATO: It’s very sweet, it’s very delicious, it’s very…good for our chatting (charla).
JIMMY JINX: That’s…this is the thing you see…over a cup of tea it’s…people open up…it’s always good for…a conversation.
GATO: Is it considered as an aphrodisiac?
JIMMY JINX: [laughs] It’s more um…it’s more sort of…comfort(comodidad). It’s less a sex toy..more a teddy bear (oso de peluche).
